We have a built in concrete slide. It was painted with an epoxy coating to make it slippery. It is peeling??

I'm not sure what to put on it. I was told to fiberglass it, but I haven't been able to find anyone who does it. The slide is large and empties into my pool. Right now it looks bad. The epoxy is peeling away. It probably needs to be sanded before anything else can be put on it. The question is, what should go on the slide to make it look good and make it slippery when the water runs down it, and won't start peeling and lifting off again? We have a built in concrete slide. It was painted with an epoxy coating to make it slippery. It is peeling??
Nothing is permanent. I presume the epoxy did a decent job for a few years. It may be best to remove what is peeling, rough up the epoxy and coat again with epoxy. Check with a reputable paint store for their recommended product as not all epoxies are able to take heavy water exposure. We have a built in concrete slide. If you want the repair to last a while, you will probably need to have the slide sand blasted and recoated. Check with local industrial painting contractors, they probably have some experience with this type of coating.

What type of epoxy would you use to attach metal to painted resin?

Looking to attach an additional wall attachment to a resin piece of wall art. What type of epoxy would you use to attach metal to painted resin?
Any type of epoxy will work. First scrape the paint off where the glue joint will be. Paint can come loose from the base material and then everything falls apart.

I have a painted concrete floor that I'd like to use an epoxy treatment on. Can I do that?

How do I prep the floor? Would I need to somehow strip the paint off? The floor is kind of uneven and there are stairs right in the middle of the room, so there's a wood frame around the bottom of the stairs...I really don't know anything about epoxy treatments, either, so any help is much appreciated.I have a painted concrete floor that I'd like to use an epoxy treatment on. yes you would need to strip and prep the floor before you use an epoxy treatment to get proper adhesion

I painted my gunite pool this morning with zeron epoxy and its raining four hours later will it be o.k.?

It's good paint. If you did the proper wait time between first mixing the two parts and then doing the actual paint job and the conditions were fairly warm ( over 68 F) you should actually be ok. I've seen that stuff set well in 2 hours on a hot day with a little wind. The big thing here that may be an issue, will be the gas off in the paint around the hopper. It may have completely gassed off and there's nothing to worry about other than a scum line which can usually be brushed off when the pool is filled. If you have any doubt at all though, about how well the paint set, you can always wet/dry shop vac out that bit of water in the hopper and paint the area that was submerged. Have a look at the slope as well while you're at it to see if the rain run off into the hopper left any streaks. It may have...it may not have. I dunno how much rain you had and your other weather conditions. The gas off I mention is part of the paint's chemical set up process. If you see bubbles in the paint anywhere..it gassed and was trapped by the water in the hopper. It hadn't properly set up at the time of the rainfall.

If you painted smart, you should have started in the hopper and worked your way out of the deep end. That will actually give that paint in that area an hour head start on setting up on average so if it started raining 4 hours after finishing that paint that's now submerged will have had at least 5 hours dry time and will likely be ok. It's all temp and wind dependent though.

I know it's expensive paint and it sucks to have to open up a tin costing almost a hundred bucks for a small area but you may be forced to do it if you got bubbling. Not doing it while you have the opportunity will cost you far more in the long run.

Normally a contractor won't do a paint job unless they have a clear weather guarantee of a day. Just leaves room for error.

Using enamel for fine art painting on epoxy?

I have a painting in which I coated with a layer of clear epoxy resin. It is now cured and I want to paint on the epoxy surface. I was thinking about enamel used in hobby models.

I went to the store today and found 2 kinds of enamel. Acrylic enamel and regular enamel.

I assume the acrylic is water-based and the other is oil.

My questions are:

What is best to paint onto a surface of epoxy resin?

Does it need to be coated after that with anything?

What are the archival qualities of this stuff?Using enamel for fine art painting on epoxy?
Either oil or acryllic will work on your epoxy surface. Both will look good, the acryllic will clean up easier. Afterward, you only need to coat it with something if you want a different look (like it is glossy and you want it to be matte) Enamel is pretty permanent stuff, good for outdoors, waterproof, etc. so you don't need to do anything. It should be pretty lightfast and keep its color for a long time, but I can't say if it is archival or pH neutral, like it won't yellow the lignins it comes into contact with.Using enamel for fine art painting on epoxy?

I washed my hand with Jasco Paint & Epoxy Remover....?

I just remember about 3 years ago, I did some painting around the house (I was 16 - 17 years old back then and wasn't very smart). After the paint job I got some paint on my hand so I decided to wash it off with a paint thinner.

Jasco's paint thinner was the only one around so I decided to use that. I'd say I used it to take the paint off my hands 4 - 5 times altogether (then washing it with water thoroughly afterwards).

However every time I used it, it made little cracks on the skin. I was wondering how harmful is it really? Does it kill your brain cells like lead does?

I noticed the printed warnings on the outside of the can says it's pretty dangerous.I washed my hand with Jasco Paint %26amp; Epoxy Remover....?
The warning labels on various products are usually mandated by state and/or federal governments.

The cracks are caused from your skin drying out...many types of solvents dries the oil out of your skin.

Since you've not been making a habit out of it, you should be OK. I'm a few years older than you, have also used various solvents to remove paints from my skin %26amp; my brain seems to still function pretty well.

Good luck...I washed my hand with Jasco Paint %26amp; Epoxy Remover....?
What kind of paint?latex?Latex will come off with just soap and water.Stain, mineral spirits/paint thinner.Ask at local paint supply stores.Try hand lotion, your skin is drying out some.
W.c. has it right, after washing, use some lotion and this will help. I still use itt aand i donn't thinc thaat ii have anny brane prrobbablemms.
I have ben bathing in paint thinner for 30 years. Ain't dead yet.
Don't worry about it and don't do that anymore. When I was 17, I pumped gas at a full service gas station and worked in the shop. At that time, we all washed the grease off our hands -- every day -- with regular, leaded gas (unleaded had not yet been invented). My hands seem to be drier than average during the winter, probably due to that. Put some vaseline type lotion on your hands as needed to relieve the dryness.

  • What does epoxy paint consist of?

I know what epoxy resin is but I want a black epoxy paint, Does this come in two pots with one of them being black and then do ya just mix the two together and paint away? What does epoxy paint consist of?
Pretty much...Resin and Activator. Epoxy paint has pigments(obviously) and thinners to allow flow. Some paints have ';poxy'; in their name and are actually polyurethanes...either single part or two part. So research what you buy. Also protect your health when using them. What does epoxy paint consist of?
You got it, you mix it just like epoxy resin and paint away.

For underground gas pipelines painting with 2-pack epoxy is OK or not?

Paint as a protection for underground pipelines is has not in the past be considered a very good protection due to damage during handling and specially during the lowering in and back filling operations. Rocks and other debris that are in the pipeline trench and backfill pose a very specific danger.

Most pipeline coatings are very thick for this reason and have a certain about of flexibility.

Because of the consequences of a pipe failure, you would do well to use a more conventional and proven coating.

There are several available and information is available on the web.For underground gas pipelines painting with 2-pack epoxy is OK or not?
    hello,

the epoxy paint is consedered best for withstanding corrosive environment, but unfortunatly it is not flixible, once cured (dry) it becomes rigid and with some soil movement, this may cause cracking in the paint layers, which will lead to corrosion.

a good replacement is polyurethane based paints, which are much flixible and also corrosion resisant.

Can you use rust-oleum epoxy shield on a painted garage floor?

What does the can say?? I put an acrylic paint on mine but it didn't have any paint on it prior. I do know you will have to remove all traces of oil, grease, dirt, loose paint, etc., from the floor first. Then you will have to use an etcher. Get it at home improvement stores. It's just some stuff you mix in water and scrub on the concrete to make very small scratches in it so the new paint will stick to it. NOW, I can tell you that even though the stuff I put down is made for garage floors and i did everything it said to do and it was brand name acrylic garage floor paint and it said it was ';hot tire pickup resistant';, the paint still came up some where the vehicle tires sat overnight. But it does look good everywhere else. A word of advise...i used a sand colored paint and i should have used a dark gray color. The sand looks good but every tire track, dirt, dried up wet puddles all show up and i have to constantly clean it up.

Stenciling on top of an Epoxy Painted Surface?

I have a concrete floor that I'm going to be painting with an epoxy concrete floor paint. This is for my son's bedroom. He wants to do an outer space type design. We want to stencil, or somehow paint planets %26amp; stars on the floor. The 2 part question is:

Part 1: What would we use to paint on top of this epoxy surface? We would like to use regular spray paint, but don't know if this would work, and if we need some sort of primer, too.

Part 2: Would we wait until the epoxy is fully cured, or would we do this before it's totally cured to ensure the stencil/sprayed paint properly adheres?

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions someone could offer.Stenciling on top of an Epoxy Painted Surface?
Most paints will have a hard time holding on to a floor that is epoxied. I would suggest looking at floor paints instead of epoxy and you will have no problem as long as you stay with a good latex or oil based paint.Stenciling on top of an Epoxy Painted Surface?
Do the painting in three layers. Put the 'base color' down using any good 'concrete paint' ... then paint the 'space scene' on top of that. For your 'final layer' you should apply the 'epoxy' (it should come in a 'clear' form) ... because it's the EPOXY that will 'hold the color to the concrete' and PROTECT IT from wear. Let each layer DRY COMPLETELY before you add the next layer ...

It sounds to me like you are stuck in a serious quagmire. To remove it chemically, will contaminate or seriously damage the walls of the tank. Has anyone ever used epoxy or rubberized pool paint over older plaster, and if so, how well did it work?

I have a plaster pool, circa 1973, that has never been resurfaced. The plaster is coming off in spots, but I can't afford a replaster or pebble finish at this time (baby on the way). I've seen epoxy pool paint and rubberized pool paint on the market, but have gotten mixed reviews about them. Does any pool paint really work? The paint will last about 3-4 years and then it will start to peal and get into your filters if you over clorinate it the paint will turn into a powder and when you brush the sides it will turn your water like milk. if you can save up in 3-4 years for a plaster it is good as a temp fix

  • Does appliance epoxy work for painting the inside of a engine?

There are special epoxies just made for interior engine painting.

After cleaning off casting flash and grinding down any sharp edges in the crank area of the block, you might consider painting the interior with Glyptal. Glyptal has been made by GE since 1924, and is mainly used as a heavy enamel for armature windings on generators. For years racers and vintage engine rebuilders have been using it to coat the interior of blocks at rebuild time. Oddly, web opinions are few and everyone quotes exactly the same benefits: ';...to seal the metal pores, and aid in oil runoff';.

POR15 works well also.Does appliance epoxy work for painting the inside of a engine?
I'm honestly not sure, but I can say that you'd probably be better served shelling out the extra 7 bucks for a can of Duplicolor's High Heat paint. In the long run you'll thank yourself.Does appliance epoxy work for painting the inside of a engine?
    No.

If I can't find the same type of toilet seat cover can I spray paint a white one?, which is safe-enamel/epoxy?

Rough up the old one with a fine grit sandpaper or steel wool. That will help the new paint adhere. I would not be afraid to spray paint a toilet seat, but I would not use any kind of paint other than enamel. Anything with latex will simply peel off as you use it. Could be annoying.

If you do spray with enamel, do so in well ventilated space, make sure anything you don't want overspray to get onto is covered. LET IT DRY very well. Most enamels factory done are baked on to create a very hard and durable surface. Spray painting at home cannot duplicate that process.

gel coat is only used for construction and repair. the reason in construction is mold release. THe reason in repair is that there is already gel coat so you have no choice.

You don't want to use gel coat, it doesn't last as long as paint and its far more brittle, awkward and incredibly difficult to finish post production..

What you want is awl-grip. Its the best around, used by all pro's. take a look on their site it has all the info you need, they supply primers etc too..

For your own sanity, don't use gel coat. If you do you should make sure to either use a 'finish' gel coat or if you're using a laminating gel coat then add wax, about 8-12% on the last coat. Thats extremely important. Oh and you'll need laminating for first few layers. The reason is: Gel coat doesn't cure when its in contact with air. When used in a mold obviously its in contact with mold wax, no air, so the exterior of the gel coat cures to a shiny finish. If you want to lay up outside a mold you need to make sure the gel coat is not in contact with air.. hence wax.

    But don't use gel coat!!!

Hope that helps.Paint with epoxy polyester or two pack?
You do want to gel coat it to make it perfect.Boats out of the factory have about a quarter inch of gel coat, but you could probably put on two coats. I don't know if you know much about gelcoat but it costs about 100 $ a gallon which you might use. Then the paint which will cost a couple hundred for everything (bottom paint). The ratio for gelcoat is 15 drops of MEKP(methyl ethyl keystone peroxide) or hardener, to one ounce of polyester resin wich is the same as gel coat. you can read the instructions on back of jug. I don't know alot about painting so I hope someone else responds, but without gel coat and a hell of a sanding, when you prime and paint that boat, every nick, every scratch will show up very clearly. Remember that preparation is extremely important.

    Epoxy garage cement paint?

Can I use this typr of paint on a wood flooring for an enclosed trailer?Epoxy garage cement paint?
Yes, it can be used over wood flooring. However, using epoxy garage paint over wood will need 2 coats, one primer and one base coat. Do this during summertime if you do not live in warmer climate for quicker curing time. I am assuming you want to lay down an epoxy floor in a cargo trailer. The waterborne epoxy is safe to use anywhere b/c its low odor and non-flammable. Check out this link...

I am a contractor in Montreal canada and we use only garage epoxy on all our balconies it is highly durable very water resistant and can be color matched to almost any color you would like.

The only drawback is that it can be slippery when wet or slippery when extremly cold.

You can add a special sand to the paint that makes it anti slip but this usually catches dirt (because it's rougher) and makes the paint harder to clean.

What is the best epoxy paint to apply to a cement floor(old &pourous) and with what additive to make it less s

high quality paint is not what causes a painted floor to last.....but like any painting projects its all in the preparation.

if the floor isn't cleaned and free of all wax and grease products 100% then no paint, no matter how good will last.

the concrete floors you see painted that last and last were done when the concrete was fresh...prior to car tires, people, etc.

car tires, oil, gas fumes, even grease sitting in a can on the shelf will give off a air borne silicon that will adhere to the floor. this silicon is what prevents paints from sticking. this can be proven by strictly opening a can of tire shine in a body shop and watch how fast just opening the bottle will contaminate the entire shop from head to toe. What is the best epoxy paint to apply to a cement floor(old %26amp;pourous) and with what additive to make it less s

  • Can we epoxy paint a concrete basement floor that gets wet in rain?

Our house is very old and when it rains hard we have one spot where a small puddle develops in the basement. It's probably coming from behind some paneling but we can live with it rather than go ripping out paneling and looking for the problem. The water just goes into the concrete - it's not even enough to bother mopping. So, if we cover this floor with epoxy paint from Home Depot without dealing with the water issue are we going to regret it? The other option we looked at would be a sub-floor like Dricore but the floors are terribly uneven and I'd worry about the water destroying it. Any thoughts? Can we epoxy paint a concrete basement floor that gets wet in rain?
Just make sure that part of the floor is dry and that it won't rain for a few days after you paint.

Take care of that water issue though as soon as you can. You don't want mold. Can we epoxy paint a concrete basement floor that gets wet in rain?
It may be a good thing to dig down outside the wall(about 6 ft along the wall,2 ft. down and out from wall)you think the water is coming from, clean the wall of dirt, get a gallon of roofing tar and spread it on wall, let dry, fill hole back in.After next heavy rain fall,go down and check.Dehumidify the basement if no puddle, this will dry up any moisture behind paneling.Go ahead and do the epoxy.

    A question about Epoxy Paint.....?

i just want to know how safe is it to use? and how can you get it off your skin? A question about Epoxy Paint.....?
You have to be carefull of the fumes while applying and letting it dry, but after that, no worries. As for how to get it off your skin, I've always just let it wear off, but you can probably fond a solvent for it (look on the cans).A question about Epoxy Paint.....?
It's safe but ONLY if you make sure not to breathe in many of the fumes and if you tend to avoid contact.

Getting it off your skin is a lot more difficult than keeping it off in the first place. Be sure to wear gloves and if possible, use long sleeves and pants.

Oh, yes, a HAT is highly recommended. Unless you want a quick highlight for your hair ;-)

real epoxy paint is mixed from 2 parts %26amp; is NASTY fumes %26amp; takes up to a week to cure, requires nasty chemicals for cleanup %26amp; mixing but once cured, is the toughest finish there is.
I wouldn't recommend eating it, and soap/hotwater. Orange hand cleaner also works well.

    Latex paint over epoxy paint?

i put epoxy paint on a wall and then someone put latex paint over it and it looks like mud cracks how can i fix itLatex paint over epoxy paint?
You'll have to remove the latex paint by stripping it. The good news is that you have epoxy under the latex which opens up more options to the stripping process as epoxy is a hard coating that is chemical resistant and usually very slick. As I do not know where the wall is located I'll have to assume that you will be able to use chemicals. Go with something easy to start such as lacquer thinner. The thinner will almost immediately curdle the latex leaving the epoxy virtually undamaged. Just scrape off the latex coating as you go...work in small sections at a time. If you have this wall in a store or hospital then you have more issues and probably can't use harsh chemicals. You can use a citrus stripper, smells like oranges. You'll have to be careful with this one though as if left too long will lift the epoxy. Again, working in small areas at a time apply a thin coat of the citrus stripper. Once you see the latex curdle scrape the layer off and neutralize the stripped area with as sponge and water. Of course if worst comes to worst the old duct tape around the hand trick will work too but you'll be there for days! Good Luck!!!

  • I bought the Rustoleum Epoxy concrete paint but they said it cant be used on driveways. any suggestions?

I think you would need to use the concrete stain. The paint will just pull up from the heat of the car's tires. You can get concrete stain that looks just like paint or you can get it in a semi transparent which looks more like a natural stone when you are through. It's beautiful. The most important thing though when doing anything to concrete is to etch the concrete first. This will allow the stain to sink into the concrete and not pull up. This is done with a product that you can get at Home Depot and you just wash it on, rub it in with a stiff brush and then wash it off after it sits for a bit. Check with your local Home Depot Associate though just to make sure the stain will work, but I think that it will. Also, I know that Rusoleum makes a garage epoxy coating so that is meant to stand up to the car tires. It comes in gray and tan and you are supposed to add these decorative chips to it, but for a driveway, that might look weird. It will be expensive though, it costs about $100 for a one car garage size. I say look into the stain.I bought the Rustoleum Epoxy concrete paint but they said it cant be used on driveways. any suggestions?
Yes, that stuff is used for garage and basement floors. I've seen on HGTV that there is specific concrete paint. What you have there is Epoxy--you mix to ingredients together to make more of a coating than paint. Good luck. Look a little harder or ask at the desk.I bought the Rustoleum Epoxy concrete paint but they said it cant be used on driveways. any suggestions?
The concrete paint is good for surfaces that won't take a lot of wear and tear, hence no on driveways. The best bet would be to use tar on the driveway. Goodluck!

Can i mix epoxy with some kind of paint. I want to paint something on a hard surface that will never come off?

They actually sell epoxy paints that stick to many surfaces. You don't say what hard surface you are wanting to paint, but if it is concrete they now have chemicals that will permanently color concrete that work very well. Another possibility if this is a small object would be to have it powder coated. Can i mix epoxy with some kind of paint. I want to paint something on a hard surface that will never come off?
first off epoxy will have a trnslucint effect to it and not match anything in this way so painting over it is the best thing to do. need to ask a pro about a good paint that will breeth and still match the color that you are trying to match. Can i mix epoxy with some kind of paint. I don't know what kind of paint you are talking about but I know you can add pigment to epoxy, that will do the job.

2 compound paint are usually more temperature resistance like Aircraft paint for example is epoxy base 2 compund which makes it flexiabl from -120 degree celcius up to +80 celcius. By adding more hardener the paint is harder but more likly to crack less harder makes the surface softer. Can anyone tell me anything about epoxy resin in relation to paint, as in main uses, components?

I need to waterproof a wall for my shower and was hoping to use a waterproof epoxy paint. Will it work?

We want to do this as cheap as possible--the space does not allow for a standard shower or a ';shower in a box';. Initially we wanted to put up plastic walls, but we are concerned the adhesive won't stick to the lathe and plaster walls. Any suggestions would be appreciated!I need to waterproof a wall for my shower and was hoping to use a waterproof epoxy paint. Will it work?
No, you can't paint a shower coating on lath and plaster walls and not expect wall damage that's going to be difficult to repair later. Save yourself the trouble and glue the plastic tub surround up, it will stick fine to your walls so long as they're dry and in good shape now.I need to waterproof a wall for my shower and was hoping to use a waterproof epoxy paint. Will it work?
Go to Home Depot, they have a material there called FRP, it is a fiberglass sheet. You use FRP adhesive to let it stick to the wall and lt looks great. They make this stuff to look just like tile with grout lines and it is easier to clean then the normal texture they come with so you may need to special order it. It cuts easily also so you can just use a hole saw for your spigots and handles. You may want to add some plaster to your wall to smooth it out because the surface should be flat or your seams may look funny.
If you Varnish the wall a few times with yacht varnish that would work
the plastic surrounds work just fine

Again its like someone already said its in the preparation of the floor prior to painting with epoxy. I would recommend having the floor shot blasted with little metal balls. Best to be done by a professional. Costs could be a bit high but well worth it in the long run. What is the best epoxy paint to apply to a cement floor(old %26amp;pourous) and with what additive to make it less s

Can you paint your garage floor with regular paint? Or is there an alternative to using epoxy?

    Actually,

There is a concrete floor paint on the market, try that. Can you paint your garage floor with regular paint? Or is there an alternative to using epoxy?
Not a good plan. But like the others state, they make a concrete paint, also for a non-slick finish stir in about three cups of clean sand.keeps wet floors from being slippery, and is cheap. Also use a squeegee when you apply the paint, goes faster and you'll get a more even coat. Can you paint your garage floor with regular paint? Threre is a paint especially for painting concrete/garage floors that is not epoxy, generally available in red and grey, thin the first coat with approx 20/30% white spirits.

Garage floor paint from B %26amp; Q did it for me, has been painted 8 years and no sign of peeling. Having said that I don't do hand brake turns in the garage or burn rubber!! Two words of advice, make sure your floor is really really clean (I scrubbed mine) and do it in the summer when you can leave the door open as the smell is horrendous.
just buy floor paint. you can get it from most DIY places and it says on the tin that its for floors.my floor took 3 tins.

Can we epoxy paint a concrete basement floor that gets wet in rain?

Since the epoxy will take couple of hours to start setting , you could first with an old pair of running shoes walk on the floor at the far end and with a trowel pull back gently on the top just enough to work it towards the space that you are short of , and be careful no to slip , have some acetone handy to clean up after wards , and good luck.

If you are painting on concrete, there is a special adhesive (not epoxy) which can mix with exterior paint to ensure the paint remains on the surface. You can purchase this item at Lowes or Home Depot. Just see any store representative and they will direct you to the various name brands. Can i mix epoxy with some kind of paint. I want to paint something on a hard surfase that will never come off?
The paint you are looking for is called two part polyester. Grainger sells it. Rustoleum makes it.
There are epoxy based paints on the market. Others are similar to epoxy, but use other resins. They come in a few different colors. I work where they have some floor area that has this kind of paint. It cleans up well, has worn well, and looks fairly good.

I have seen such paint at several Home Depot type of stores.

You cannot mix epoxy with any regular paint.

What color should I paint my walls in the basement. The floor is tan Epoxy flooring?

';Humble Gold'; by Sherwin Williams. What color should I paint my walls in the basement. The floor is tan Epoxy flooring?
a light color, as basements are usually darkWhat color should I paint my walls in the basement. The floor is tan Epoxy flooring?
    White, to reflect light.
Basements are typically not famous for having lots of natural light....so you want to stick to the lighter colors on the color wheel.

You dont have to paint all the walls white, but lightening up the space is a must.

I suggest picking two colors so that the space isn't so monochromatic (one color). For the long walls use the light color and for the shorter walls on opposite sides use a dark dramatic color that will match what you plan to have in the space. I picture basements as gray dungeon type places so I would stay away from grays.

A vivid green for the accent walls would be great...because it would bring a sense of nature into the space. The other walls could be a light brown or tan color. The reason I suggest these colors is because then you could bring in some natural elements into the space to make it feel very homey and cozy.

You could also go to the paint store and pick a paint color selection where there are about five variations of the same color on one card. You could then choose a light and dark version from that card so that you know they will compliment each other. Use the dark for two walls and light for the other two.

Be creative. A basement is a big fun space to design. Just make good plans and budget before you start so that you know which direction your heading and will not over spend. It is very easy to overspend once you get going. Dont be afraid to go to the Closeout stores and Dollar stores to fill the room with accessories.

    Good luck! :o)
A tan, a few shades lighter than the floor.

Has anyone use Berh VS Quikrete epoxy for garage floor paint?

I'm trying to decide which to use, Berh or Quikrete kit to paint my garage floor. Both are 2-part epoxy kit. Any recommendation, suggest or tip for painting the garage floor would be great. Thanks!Has anyone use Berh VS Quikrete epoxy for garage floor paint?
I used the Behr 1 part epoxy for my kitchen floor. I acid washed the concrete and applied a concrete bonding primer. I then applied 2 coats of paint using a small sponge roller and letting dry for 24 hours. Last coat I used a 3/8'; nap roller and sprinkled the flakes as I painted a 3' x 3' area. I let the paint cure for 72 hours and then sealed it with ZEP floor sealer(step 2) 3 coats with 30 minutes between coats. After that 3 coats of ZEP high traffic floor finish(step 3). I applied the sealer with a grout sponge and put it in a plastic bag in the fridge between coats.

if you dont clean every molecule of grease, dust, and dirt off the floor before you paint, in 5 months, its going to peal.

and when i say 'every molecule' i mean you have to use concrete cleaner and lots of fans and open windows. if you say 'eh, thats good enough', its going to peal. i have so many customers tell me 'ugh! the paint is pealing!'

    this is the paint:

basically any place that sells paint can get them for you.
I have done 5 garage epoxy floor coatings and just did a epoxy coating system this weeken.

the prep is key you probably definitly will not be able to wash the floor inside but that is what the prep calls for to wash it with the solution that comes in the kit and then acid etch it. I had rent a floor prep machine at benjamin moore this past weekend to prep inside. They are durable systems but prep is key

you can get the system at lowes, home depot, sherwin williams, benjamin moore, duron

Does anyone know what epoxy paint they used on Color Correction (HGTV) to paint the kitchen countertops?

On Constance Ramos' show on HGTV, Color Correction, she painted over avocado colored kitchen tile countertops with a black epoxy. I would love to do the same for my kitchen but could not identify the product she used. It was in the episode titled ';Gone Green.'; Does anyone know? Thanks!Does anyone know what epoxy paint they used on Color Correction (HGTV) to paint the kitchen countertops?
I was looking for the same thing tonight. I didn't catch what prep she had to do or what exact product she used. If anyone knows, please tell us! Thanks!

  • Is there any way to clean and or buff out slight scratches on flat black epoxy coat auto paint?

As a professional painter I've always wondered that myself. It seems as though there is no way to polish the marks without destroying the matte finish by making it gloss up.Any time I have needed to freshen a low gloss finish,it took a new mist coat of paint to do it.I might experiment with Armor All low gloss.Or a mild sandblasting. Is there any way to clean and or buff out slight scratches on flat black epoxy coat auto paint?
you can try fix it i got some and it works or just use some touch up paint. Is there any way to clean and or buff out slight scratches on flat black epoxy coat auto paint?
you can apply the rubbing compound (waxpol make). firstly sprinkle some water to make the surface wet, then apply the rubbing compound and wipe with soft cloth briskly using pressure(force) by you hands.

    kindly repeat ,if necessary.

    This may solve your problem.
There are any good ways. A clear coat will reduce the visibility. AN auto deal for you model will have a pen that match your pain color. There is always a little bump left over after you use the pen.

How long does it take for an epoxy paint to dry before I can put the second layer on?

After the second layer, how long does it take to completly dry?How long does it take for an epoxy paint to dry before I can put the second layer on?
I have just painted my garage floor with a 2 part epoxy paint. This was applied during a cool day. It took this about 12 hours to cure, not sticky to the touch. We then waited another day before parking the car in the garage.

Why are you applying 2 coats, normally epoxy paint is applied so that only one coat is needed. Any unused paint from the first coat has to be discarded because it is curing in the can as you applly it.How long does it take for an epoxy paint to dry before I can put the second layer on?
Without reading the instructions on the can, I would give it 24 hours. Epoxy doesn't dry...it cures. I know, it's the same thing, but curing takes longer. Just to be safe go with 24 hours between coats.

Should I put the flakes down with epoxy paint?

    Concerns:

    1. will it look uniform?

    2. will it stay? (under the paint or on top? How does this work?)

    3. will it affect the texture of the floor?

thanksShould I put the flakes down with epoxy paint?
It will look uniform as long as you go slowly and lightly until you get the hang of it. I wouldn't worry about that though. I have seen not one but to morons get it right.

It stays. But I'll tell ya, the epoxy paint will wear off in high traffic areas after a year or two. But you can always touch those areas up. The flakes however last as long as the epoxy for sure.

They are paper thin and won't make the floor bumpy or difficult to sweep or anything if that's what you're wondering. What they will do is add visual texture and hide imperfections that were already in the floor. Bottom line- use them.Should I put the flakes down with epoxy paint?
Epoxy paints do not last long. Use an epoxy coating and then broadcast the flakes. There are different ways to braodcast the flakes on the epoxy coating a. Check feeding b. Throw in the air and let them fall under gravity. You can broadcast as little or as much you want. If you want to cover the surface completely, it is a good idea to remove the excess amount next day either by brooming or with an air blower. The surface needs to be covered with a seal coat.
I painted my kitchen floor with epoxy paint. I etched the concrete.....applied concrete bonding primer.....2 light coats of epoxy paint using a small sponge roller. I let the paint cure for the recommended time and then used a 3/8'; nap roller to apply final coat in 3'X6' sections and sprinkled the flakes down as I was going. You can put them in a pizza pepper shaker or an empty carpet freshener can.

After 72 hours I sealed the floor with 4 coats of Zep High Traffic Floor Finish(Step 3) with 30 minutes between coats. I did the floor 1 year ago and just mopped and applied 2 coats of the floor finish. Floor looks great.

  • Someone put oil-based paint on a driveway that had water-based paint or epoxy...whats the easiest way to fix?

Get a very high pressure sprayer, at least 2,500 psi, and blast the old off. Don't put anything back on, concrete is a maintenance free surface, why would you paint it?Someone put oil-based paint on a driveway that had water-based paint or epoxy...whats the easiest way to fix?

Can I use fiberglass epoxy over spray paint or will the epoxy eat it away?

I am making a skimboard and I would like to paint it with spray paint. With my past skimboards I have found that it is hard to keep the spray paint from wearing off even after covering it with many different sealers so I was wondering if I could fiberglass over it or if the epoxy would eat away the spray paint. I should also note it is a wood board so do you think I should use epoxy paint then epoxy or just paint then epoxy? Can I use fiberglass epoxy over spray paint or will the epoxy eat it away?
In all respect having the paint removed is the best solution. However if total removal is not allowable, then insure the paint is sanded rough for the fiberglass to bond. It will not eat away at the paint....but it will be the weakest support. If you have a strong bond of paint to wood...followed by a strong (sanded) bond of fiberglass to paint then you you won't have to fear any breaks.

    Good Luck

Has anyone used the epoxy garage floor paint kit?

What are your thoughts after using it? Is it easy to use? How long has it been since you did it and what does it look like now? What brand did you use?

Thanks!Has anyone used the epoxy garage floor paint kit?
Used the Sherwin Williams system for the floor of my retail space. It does take time and I used a commerical painter to do it. First coat was gray- that has to fully dry. Next layers we used paint chips and sprinkled them on the floor (black and white). Let that dry. Then two coats of clear coat. It's really durable. We wash with a slightly damp mop about once every 6 months- we take care of shoe scuffs with a Mr. Clean white eraser/sponge. Very durable. Just now starting to see wear in the high traffic areas. During the winter, we use walk off mats by the front door to catch as much water and salt as we can. Probably in January (low sales month for us) we will have a fresh coat of clear done.

Gotta tell you the paint smell stinks to high heaven- and if there's lots of humidity it takes longer to dry. So factor that into your schedule. We get tons of compliments on the floor. And with an uneven cement floor, it make it all look smooth.Has anyone used the epoxy garage floor paint kit?
You may want to consider purchasing an epoxy paint from Sherwin Williams. I purchased this paint in the color of my choice and applied it with a roller. It was already mixed when I purchased it. It dried hard and is very durable. The only issue is if you spill water on it. The surface is very smooth, and slippery when wet.
It's been a couple years (2 summers or so). Don't remember brand name. Used it in dark gray on my front %26amp; back poured concrete porches/entry stairs. (Spent DAYS stripping old stuff off, ick!) Looks great still. Workes best if you apply in small areas in ';x'; or crosshatch pattern.

    Good luck. Have fun.
i dont remember the brand. we did it about a month ago, looks GREAT !!!!! wasnt too hard, took a while to dry because it was kind of humid here in minneapolis, but looks really nice highly recommend

Will epoxy make acrylic paint permanent on steel?

I want to paint a steel lighter for someone using acrylic paint. I have a set of paint for cars, but it's flammable. So I want to use epoxy to harden it. But first of all, will the liquid ruin the painting? Will the epoxy be strong enough to withstand daily handling? Will epoxy make acrylic paint permanent on steel?
Yea should be strong enough. I'm sure the heat won't matter, but keep in mind that heat will weaken and make brittke, the epoxy. Will epoxy make acrylic paint permanent on steel?
no no it will be way to brittle trust me

    Question about epoxy paint?

I don't want to wait as long for the epoxy in the sink to harden...so I put a fan on it...do you think it'll be ready after 16 hours?Question about epoxy paint?
What you describe is called ';air drying'; it can accelerate the drying time, but look on the product to see if advises against it. I have refinished tubs, sinks etc %26amp; could accelerate the drying time down to 8 hours, but you would need an infrared heater.

Keep the area very warm while drying and it will work. 80 -90 degrees is best.

Best of luckQuestion about epoxy paint?
It couldn't hurt. Try it and see what happens. Either it will or it won't but at least you found out your answer.

  • Can I apply a water based paint to epoxy water based kit?

I purchased a cream colored epoxy kit for my new shop because they did not have the color I was looking for. I was wondering if I could add a couple of tablespoons to the part A mixture (which is water based) to get the desired color or at least close to the wall colors. I am trying to macth a deep purple but a lilac (light) would be fine. My question is:

Would this be dangerous or harful, vapor wise, mixing chemicals and such, etc.

Has anyone done this before and what was the outcome?

Thanks everyone! Can I apply a water based paint to epoxy water based kit?
    Epoxy and water don't mix.

I assume it's like the epoxies that I work with daily.

The resin and the catalyst won't properly bond with materials not specifically designed for the epoxy.

I made a very expensive mistake epoxying something on a surface without completely drying the area. Can I apply a water based paint to epoxy water based kit?
Never done it but I would not think it would be too big an issue.

Maybe look into getting colored flakes instead. Or, having a paint store put in tint.

I painted my shower with epoxy paint and now parts of it are peeling why?

i waited five days for it to dryI painted my shower with epoxy paint and now parts of it are peeling why?
Most likely, there was some residue left on the surface of the shower before you painted. TSP (trisodium phosphate) is very good for removing soapscum, grease, etc and deglossing surfaces before painting. I know that it is often recommended in conjunction with epoxy paints like you used. However, you also have to wash it off completely, or it will also keep the paint from sticking. Using a very fine grit sandpaper or steel wool to give a little ';tooth'; to the surface before painting would also help with the paint adhesion (be sure to wash away all the dust, of course).

At this point, you will probably have to try and strip as much off as you can and start over or hire a pro :-(

...or just buy a new shower stall.

Good Luck.I painted my shower with epoxy paint and now parts of it are peeling why?
The first answer gives the first question I too have to ask. What is the surface you painted over? Then with all due respect what possesed you to PAINT a shower area?

Drying time has nothing at all to do with the reasons for the problems you're having now. In fact the TYPE of paint has little to do with the issue either.

You attempted coating a wall,,, whatever the surface, with PAINT, and as such you subject it to heat, moisture, absorbtion,,,, ALL designed to degrade paint.

Whatever you spent on epoxy paint you could have used for even a bargian tub/shower surround. Beyond that the EPOXY is far better suiyed to floors and other surfaces not under constant bombardment by water, etc.

I'll give you credit for wanting the change, but not by the method you chose.

    Steven Wolf
the most usual reason for any paint job to fail is faulty prep work

showers have an incredible build up of minerals, soap scum, organic material etc... Even with what most people consider ';a good cleaning'; there will be residue--even from the cleaning products. To do the job properly requires numerous scrubs %26amp; rinces before applying any paint. Epoxy needs a very clean surface to adhere properly. Your best bet is to remove it all and start again or have a pro redo it.
Also many showers are extremly smooth surfaces which must be properly prepared to get things to stick. If you want e-mail me more details and I can offer a solution.

You can paint ANYTHING and have it last with out flaws with the proper prep work and paint.
If you painted on a tile surface... you can't do that. Tile won't hold paint, especially in such humid conditions.
To what surface did you apply the epoxy, and what kind did you use and make sure you mixed the epoxy correctly.
Your surface may not have been clean.
If it's latex, than water seeped under it and broke the adhesion.Use Oil based it's more water proof. If the shower is acrylic, paint won't stick,it's like teflon. It dosn't matter how long you let it dry, paint does not repel moisture well.
Fine grit sandpaper to ensure the paint has something to attach to. Most shower surfaces are very slick, the sandpaper will allow for the paint to have something to make contact/adhere to.

Epoxy or paint for a garage floor?

We were all set to Epoxy our cement garage floor tomorrow until we watched the DVD that came with it, and realized how long it would take (so much washing, rinsing, scrubbing, drying, and then coating it). Maybe just painting the floor would be easier and quicker? Would the paint stick to the cement and stay? Any advice would be very helpful to me.Epoxy or paint for a garage floor?
I did this to my garage a few years ago and I too was shocked at the time. But let me tell you, it was well worth it. The floor still looks good to this day. Nothing out there holds up to the beating an epoxy floor will. The one thing you have to realize is if your floor is relatively clean then you don't have to do as much cleaning. Just make sure you have a fan to blow on the floor while it is drying between cleanings. That shortens up the time considerably.Epoxy or paint for a garage floor?
Paint of epoxy no matter which, each of these the garage floor hasto be cleaned and prepped and they apply the same way..epoxy is higher but more durable..Home depot has an epoxy garage floor kit..you simply mix the two products in the kit together..one the base and the other is the catalyst....the same amount of prep, and they both brush and roll on..the epoxy kkitd have some little chips to sprinkle over it as you roll 5 x5 areas sprinkle a few..roll more sprinkle more...the chips give it a granite effect..but you can opt to use these or not..same amount of work in either way...you have to clean the floor....The kits are more expensive(epoxy) but the job will be scrubbable without fading, and last way longer..
Sherwin williams sells a great quick drying product to paint cement surfaces, my neighbor painted her cement walkway with it and it was dry within an hour! I would definitely go to your local paint store and ask them for something durable and fast drying. Go to Sherwin Williams, or Benjamin Moore, whichever you have near you.
They have a type of tar that you can use to fill the cracks and a paint that will seal and grib on your floor. It comes in gray or black. They have it at home depot and they have a book that walks you through the whole thing.
As long as its clean and been etched you can use an oil base flor and porch enamel and it will be ok will take a few days to dry depending on where you live, but epoxy is a hard way to go
Regular paint is going to come off much faster and end up spotting where your tires rub the paint off if your going to be parking in this garage. An epoxy would be much better, you'll get a longer life out of it and if you have any fluids dripping out of your car, or just plain spills from garage work, they will clean up much easier.
Epoxy lasts well only if the preparation is done well. I suggest you get the cheapest acrylic (water based) paint in your desired colour that you can find. It sticks well to a clean surface and when it starts to look shabby and marked, roll on another quick coat. Cheap, easy to apply and always looks good.

Can you put an epoxy floor paint over asbestos tile?

We have really ugly 1960's tile in our basement. Where there had been water damage years before, previous owners have ripped up quite a few of the tiles around the edges of the walls. Though carpeting is a better option, we cannot afford that right now. I didn't know whether or not we could look into that epoxy paint that many use on garage floors, and if so, what we would do along the edges where tile has been pulled up. Can you put an epoxy floor paint over asbestos tile?
Unfortunately, If some of the tiles are coming up or already removed, more will come in the future. You could paint over them, but because of the water damage and gaps, it might not look the best. If you are looking for a cheap fix to last, remove any tiles that are loose or severly bowed or cupped. Then use a type of filler (feather patch is cheap and easy) to level out the holes to make everything smooth again. If you do decide to paint them, make sure you have them cleaned well. Don't listen about the asbestos being bad and having to remove them all, if you epoxy paint over them, they are sealed and will not cause any health concerns. If you are going with carpet in the future, it'll be already prepped too.Can you put an epoxy floor paint over asbestos tile?
IS IT CERAMIC TILE OR LENOLEUM TILE?

I WOULD RIP EVERYTHING UP, (ALL TILES)

    AFTER FLOOR IS CLEAN

I WOULD EITHER RE-TILE WITH CERAMIC, OR LENOLEUM TILES(DEPENDS ON YOUR BUDGET)

I WOULD NOT COVER UP OLD TILE.

  • How to remove epoxy floor paint from a driveway?

Hello we are going to do a complete clean up on a property for sale. There is a 4 by 4 area of blue tint from an eopxy paint spill. We used a wire brush tool to remove the top layer of cement and it worked great on the paint removal. Now we have a BLUE TINT left that I cannot find a product that will remove.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried driveway cleaner/degreaser,paint thinner, power wash. How to remove epoxy floor paint from a driveway?
Try some Muratic Acid. I removed rust stains from concrete with it. Make a mess and smells nasty, but it worked. How to remove epoxy floor paint from a driveway?

Another solution, though I detest staining a drive just for aethetics, is to stain over.

Does garage paint epoxy cure faster in cold or warm temperatures?

I coated my garage with Quikrete Garage Epoxy. I followed the instructions completely. The job turned out to be a real nightmare. It was like trying to paint with mud or taffy. It was cold outside but I warmed the garage and the concrete for hours with a 55,000 BTU turbo heater. I now have my heat pump set at 55 degrees. Now I am concerned that it is not curing correctly. Would this epoxy cure faster in the hot or cold?Does garage paint epoxy cure faster in cold or warm temperatures?
I believe concrete should be around 50 to 70 degrees...Read the packaging. If you are trying to warm the floor it might take more than a turbo heater.. Ususally ambient warm temperatures are more appropriate, since concrete holds it temperature for a long time.Does garage paint epoxy cure faster in cold or warm temperatures?
Listen, this is a project that you want to do one time and one time only, Ambient temp is always critical for all paints, however, the concrete surface temp is just as important. Not sure where you live, but in the midwest the ideal time is late spring thru late fall. Please follow all directions, some manu's will not warrant a product if installed accordingly. good luck.
The air in your garage might be warm, but what is the temperature of the concrete ?

On the epoxy can, should be instructions and the temperature range of the product.

    Good luck with that.
Almost all paint will cure much faster when it is warm versus the cold.
Ask this same question in google and here is what you get,

';Sounds pretty sensible. Someone also suggesting warming the cans to 90 degrees via hot water in the utility sink. Have to find a space heater to borrow--maybe I'll throw the grill in there for an hour or two...

Not too worried if it cures in 4 days instead of 1--i just want to get it done.

    Thanks. ';

    Or

    ';Two component epoxies cure better in warm weather and the colder it gets, the slower the cure time. Many people will mix a two component product together and if they do not get their project completed, they will put the mixture in a refrigerator or other cold place to slow down the reaction of the components so they can warm it up and use it later. So, if you apply the two component epoxy in cold weather, it will eventually cure but it will not be the same as if it were applied at 60 or 70 degrees. How much slower, I can not say. Why not rent a space heater for a day or so and bring the heat up in your garage and then apply the epoxy at the specified temp? I hope the floor isn't a bright white because if you use a propane space heater, it may give yhour floor a slight yellow tint.';

    Hope it helped :)

Is an epoxy reinforced paint (such as benjamin moore patio and latex paint) sufficient to use in garage?

wondering if should use a pure 100% epoxy cover instead. Is an epoxy reinforced paint (such as benjamin moore patio and latex paint) sufficient to use in garage?
I have used the B/J and I am a paint contractor for more than 15 years and I prefer it to epoxy. It dries faster and doesn't smell as awful and is very durable and I have never been called back to job for a customer that was not satisfied and they colors to chose from are awesome. Just be sure to follow the directions on the can and make sure that you roll it on evenly so that it dries wellIs an epoxy reinforced paint (such as benjamin moore patio and latex paint) sufficient to use in garage?
First; one cannot expect much of commercial house

paint (or almost any paint) from the big box and

discount stores. You really get what you pay for with

paint so stay away from the discount stores. There are

so many ad dollars loaded in quality cannot go in the

can. Heck you can buy interior wall paint at Walmart

for $7 a gallon! The can and label cost $1.50 so that

leaves $5.50. Walmart made a profit so how much

quality do you think went in the can? Zip, zero Nada!

And yet there are long lines in the paint department.

It's the same story at HD, Lowes, Menards and others.

Quality is considerably better with products from the

global giants such as SW, ICI and Valspar but the same

rule of economics applies; big ad dollars, thousands

of salesmen and big administration means quality

cannot go in the can. There is no argument that when

you buy paint you are paying for their ad and

    administration budget.

There are five kinds of latex resin with 100% acrylic

being at the top of the pile for quality. I wouldn't

apply anything in an outdoor architectural application

except 100% acrylic and you are unlikely to find 100%

acrylic at the box stores. Even if you did it would be

lacking in other ingredients such as binders and solid

content. One of the best telltales for judging quality

is to look at the back of the label where it lists

solid content by volume. This isn't an ad for Top

Secret Coatings products, just a fact. Our products

always include higher solid content by volume which

equals quality. It's also why our products spread

further, adhere better and last longer. So what you

have been buying is part of the problem.

Another key to getting better results is choosing the

right product. As stated previously 100% acrylic is

very useful stuff. It is used in a wide variety of

applications including interior, exterior and some

marine applications, however, it is good to note than

unless you get an acrylic rated for marine

applications don't except it to be waterproof. Acrylic

is typically water resistant which is a whole lot

different than waterproof. Architectural paints must

breathe or the structure may get mold and mildew going

    inside.

Solvent based epoxy has the highest possible adhesion

rating, it has excellent chemical resistance and its

tough but there are problems with it. It is completely

inflexible, won't take heat past 140F and chalks,

discolors and looses its gloss way too fast. Two

component urethane is a big improvement over epoxy.

Two component urethanes are colorfast, gloss retentive

and have better heat and flexibility properties than

two component epoxies. Good alkyds are also a good

option but I don't want to take all day to get to the

    point here.

We have a cool and unusual product I would like to

suggest. It is Top Secret Coatings 1 Part Epoxy. It is

a silicone based mono-epoxy with alkyd and urethane in

it making it a blend. We came up with this product

because of the problems associated with two component

epoxy and urethanes. 1 Part Epoxy retains the

desirable aspects of two component epoxy and urethane

without the mixing. Like typical epoxy it has the

highest possible adhesion rating, its waterproof and

has excellent chemical resistance. It is tremendously

flexible and hard making it durable. It takes heat to

400F, impacts to 500PSI and won't crack, peel or

chalk. It is a high performance, low build coating so

it goes on much thinner than paint. In fact it will

cover white with black at only 1 mil which is unheard

of. A sheet of paper is 4 mils. We've seen people get

well over 800 sq ft out of one gallon because it

covers so well. That makes it very economical to use.

Since it is so flexible, has such good adhesion and

low film build it can be applied direct to almost any

    surface including fiberglass, aluminum, copper,

composites, plastic, steel, ceramics even vinyl sheet

    goods!

I hope this information is useful.

What is the specific property of epoxy paint ?

    hiya again armando,

just like your other question concerning enamels, this is kind of a broad question...

epoxy is a specific type of paint resin - usually (not always) this resin is of a urea-formaldehyde composition and requires a catalyst (chemical cross-linking) to cure. epoxy products are very tough and durable coatings for use in extreme environments. once cured, they are resistant to many chemicals (solvents, acids, caustics) and are generally very abrasion and moisture resistant.

the typical drawbacks of these coatings are they usually require mixing mutliple components - then, once mixed you have only a limited amount of time to work with the product...they are relatively expensive when compared to more conventional single component coatings...and while they can be used functionally in exterior applications, they will chalk and fade freely when in contact with direct UV light (sunlight)...

epoxies MAY be in bakable powder form (as can alkyds, acrylics, and other types of resins) but they are commonly available in solvent or water borne offerings.

once again, i hope this info is helpful - good luck.

ricWhat is the specific property of epoxy paint ?
Epoxy paint is sometimes known as powder coating. Raw epoxy paint comes in a powder form which is applied electrostatically (sticks with static) to bare metals before being baked at high temperature.

Because there is no solvent (paint thinner) involved, the process is environment-friendly (very low air pollution) and resulting coating is much stronger than those achieve by regular paint job. A drawback of epoxy paint is that it usually needs to baked at high temperature.
